In the recent times, many people have been alarmed by the rapid rising of lifestyle diseases and have been trying to burn excess calories. This has potentially seen a huge rise of products, supplements, guides etc getting highly marketed all promising quick results to help an individual burn the excess fats. I will neither claim that any of these products being sold is genuine or not, nor advocate for any because I believe that losing weight is as natural as gaining weight: that is my honest opinion which I believe in. This is because of the experience that I underwent.
At this age in time, when we have our favorite pizzas delivered right sat our door steps, a lot of junk food is constantly being advertised on TV commercials and other places, times have become so tough that we have to spend most of the day working and afford little time for exercising and to cap it all, access to healthy food has become so rare, then cases of weight gain continue to sour with each passing day. And, to make matters worse, a stressful life is a major factor contributing to weight gain.
Back in 2013, I was for a routine health check up and the physician who was addressing me pointed out that I had gained so much weight within a short period of time. It wasn’t something alarming, but she addressed the risks posed by being over-weight. Simply she was suggesting that I needed to watch my lifestyle. During that time, I was undergoing some stressful moments at work which I was barely making very little to cater for my expenses and pay the utilities. Yet, I felt that despite that I had to take the challenge to shed off some fats.

How to Commit to a Healthy Diet
That evening, I took some time to analyze my lifestyle habits and to find the best ways of correcting it. The first thing which I felt that I needed to check on was my diet.
It is true that since when I was pregnant with my first born in 2011, I developed a craving for chocolates, pies and other junk foods; a habit that I carried post-pregnancy. I had to cut the craving. Yet, still, giving up on the craving alone wouldn’t have much impact if I was not ready to check on my entire diet.
During the first few months of trying to stick to the diet I realized that as much as you may try to stay on diet, the real challenge lies in making a strict commitment to a pattern of healthy eating habits. You may decide on taking organic fruits and vegetables, but what is it that will totally prevent you from snacking. What is it that will make you immune from reverting back to your former lifestyle which made you feel more comfortable and satisfied? That is the real challenge. Yet, it just takes heart to overcome it.
Overcoming the Challenges of Dieting
As much as dieting might pose as challenging, with time, things get a little bit easier. First you need to start by setting up realistic goals. These include snacking and reduction of calories-rich foods or foods rich in fat. You need to remove such foods from your house. You may choose to give them out. Basically, you want nothing to do with them. That is the same case with snacking- either while in the office or while enjoying an outdoor activity.
By setting the goals, it means you want to have a clear picture of which foods you need to take. That also means that you will have to keep a record of the healthy foods which are beneficial to you. You will have to journal out your meals and prepare a list of the specific foods that you will be eating in particular days. Of course you don’t expect all this to be sudden. The whole process should be as gradual as possible. That is the importance of the record.
I’m not saying that you need to abruptly give up on snacking or other foods. Just reduce their intake each day, with a clear goal of when you expect to have kept away from them after a particular period. The most important thing is that you need to be realistic in your choices and your goals. Through this period of change, you body will adjust and be ready to welcome the final change of diet.
You will also need to have a positive attitude. This will come in handy when you want to resist something. You don’t have to find an excuse for snacking- for instance, you snack because you had a busy day and can’t get time to visit a restaurant. Each day that you stick to healthy eating habits counts towards your final journey of healthy dieting. Ne particular thing that I found of much importance to enable someone curb the habit of snacking is by drinking planet of water. I don’t have the science behind this, but it’s a trick which I’m sure works magic for many people.
The next important decision that I made was to start exercising. Fitness too takes time for a person to adjust. However, if you truly stick to exercising daily, you get used and love it. Routine fitness is important in helping you stick to your dieting goals. It enables you to realize that you are doing all this for a particular purpose. Before you know it, you will be on your way healthy eating habits.

Formerly this website was owned by the community of the Isle of Bute and was used to advocate for the Bute Healthy Living Initiative. The website was created with the initiative to improve health & well-being as well as to reduce inequalities on Bute.
The project was developed by a broad partnership of Voluntary and Statutory Agencies, Community Groups and Community Representatives with the aim of achieving the initiative as a community living and working together. The community used to hold various forums and functions which would bring its members together for education and more awareness on better health.
However, the domain was dropped several years ago until I was gifted it recently by a friend. I have deiced to re-develop the site and make it alive again as I seek to share more interesting insights on the benefits of healthy living in our lives.
