Healthy Eating Habits
In the recent times, many specialists are alarmed by the rapid rise in lifestyle diseases particularly those related to obesity and overweight issues.
In turn, this has led to a huge rise in weight loss products, supplements, diets and guides. Most promise quick results to help an individual lose weight.
I do not claim that any of these products are genuine or not, but would certainly steer clear from quick weight loss pills and some fad diets. For example the military diet or the HCG diet.
I believe that losing weight is as natural as gaining weight: that is my honest opinion. This is because of my own personal experience.
At present we can have our favorite pizzas delivered right to our doorstep. Furthermore, a lot of junk food is constantly advertised on TV commercials. Indeed, we spend most of our days working and afford little time for exercise. In addition, stressful lifestyles can lead to overeating. Finally, there is little time to invest in shopping for and preparing healthy food. All this has led to weight gain continuing to soar with every passing day.
The Health Check Up
Back in 2013, I went for a routine health check up and my family physician pointed out that I had gained a lot of weight within a short period of time. It was not at this point anything to be alarmed about, the physician said, but some of the health risks of obesity were discussed.
Simply, she was suggesting that I need to watch my lifestyle. During that time, I was undergoing some stress at work together with some financial difficulties. Yet, I felt that despite this I had to take the challenge to shed some weight .
The Aspects of Healthy Eating;
How to Commit to a Healthy Diet
That evening, I took some time to analyze my lifestyle and to find the best way of improving it. The first thing I obviously needed to look at was my diet.
It is true that since I was pregnant with my first born in 2011, I developed a craving for chocolates, pies and other junk foods. This habit continued after pregnancy and I still had cravings for high sugar and high carbohydrate foods.
I had to cut the cravings first and find some motivation. Yet, still dealing with the cravings alone would not have enough impact if I was not ready to embrace a healthy diet.
During the first few months of trying to stick to a healthy eating plan I realized that as much as you may try to stay on a diet, the real challenge lies in making a strict commitment to a pattern of healthy eating habits.
You may decide on taking organic fruits and vegetables. However, what is it that will totally prevent you from snacking? Well, the answer is that you don’t actually have to stop snacking, you just need to substitute your old snack with healthy snacks.
Overcoming the Challenges of Dieting
As much as switching to a healthier eating plan might pose a challenge, with time, things get a little bit easier. First you need to start by setting up realistic goals. These include healthy snacking and reduction of calorie-rich foods or foods rich in fat. You need to remove such foods from your house. You may choose to give them away if you don’t like waste.
By setting the goals, it means you have a clear picture of which foods you need to take. That also means that you will have to keep a record of the healthy foods that are beneficial to you. You will have to journal your meals and prepare a list of the specific foods that you will be eating on particular days.
I’m not saying that you need to abruptly give up all foods that you previously enjoyed. Just reduce the intake every day with a clear goal of when you plan to give them up completely. The most important thing is that you need to be realistic in your choices and your goals. Through this period of change, you body will adjust and be ready to welcome the final changes towards a healthy diet.
The Importance of a Positive Attitude
You will also need to have a positive attitude. This will come in handy when you need to resist certain foods. Do not make excuses for snacking- for instance, because you had a busy day and don’t have time to visit a restaurant. Each day that you stick to healthy eating habits counts towards your final journey of a healthy diet.
One particular technique that was very helpful to curb cravings is drinking plenty of water. This is a trick that works like magic for many people trying to lose weight.
The next important decision that I made was to start exercising. Fitness too takes time for a person to adjust. However, if you truly stick to exercising daily, you get used to it and love it. Routine fitness is important in helping you stick to your dieting goals. It enables you to realize that you are doing all this for a particular purpose. Before you know it, you will be on your way healthy eating habits.
Some Information about this Website
Formerly this website was owned by the community of the Isle of Bute and was used to advocate for the Bute Healthy Living Initiative. The website was created with the initiative to improve health & well-being as well as to reduce inequalities on Bute.
The project was developed by a broad partnership of Voluntary and Statutory Agencies, Community Groups and Community Representatives with the aim of achieving the initiative as a community living and working together. The community used to hold various forums and functions which would bring its members together for education and more awareness on better health.
However, the domain was dropped several years ago until I was gifted it recently by a friend. I have deiced to re-develop the site and make it alive again as I seek to share more interesting insights on the benefits of healthy living in our lives. There are a few articles that I’ve already published and I will be working to prepare other insightful content in future. You can access the published content by clicking through various topics below.
